Old Time Chautauqua Described In Pella Chronicle Interview
Page Two recounts The Way It Was book details with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Van Dreser of Des Moines now in California. They toured the Chautauqua circuit in 1920 as he once served Des Moines as mayor. Shows ran June to September under one or two pole tents with advance girls contacting towns three days before opening to secure contracts and funds. The circuit booked towns a year ahead and rebooked them if possible.

Two Pella Bankers Attend Wisconsin Banking School
Harry Vermeer of Marion County State Bank and Howard Knutson of Pella National Bank joined about 1,450 bankers from 41 states and Puerto Rico at the 32nd annual Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin Madison. The two-week session runs Aug 15 28 with extensions and exams to graduate. Dr Herbert V Prochnow chairs the program for the Central States region.
