Zoning Perspective Funds For County Planning Programs
County planning money comes from a mix of federal state and local sources. Under Section 701 of the amended Housing Act of 1954, two thirds of planning costs may be funded federally, with one twelfth state and one fourth county funds. For Iowa counties under 50,000 population, federal grants aid surveys including land use, thoroughfare, public facilities, improvements, zoning, and subdivision regulations toward a comprehensive plan guiding future growth. Larger counties or those avoiding federal aid may allocate funds locally.
