Your secret confessed in unguarded gaze and sighs
A compact verse note follows a poet’s claim that a beloved’s eyes reveal the secret of affection and the heart’s true desire. The speaker—George Augustin—urges honesty and courage in love, contrasting playful affectation with genuine feeling. A closing quip shifts to a Washington fish story about coal sharks in the Potomac and inland hoaxes, noting the river’s lack of monopoly on such boastful tales.
