Mrs. Peter Miedema was discharged from Mahaska hospital after major surgery as a baby girl arrived to the Knopf family. Several residents left Mercy hospital after operations, including Mrs Jamis Van Vark and Mrs 7 mar Vio Wek. Gerrit Maria Marinus born in the Proeningeen Netherlands October 8 passed at the Home for the Aged at age 71 years 17 days. Funeral held Saturday at 2 00 oclock with Rev F Van Houten of Oskaloosa. Interment in Oakwood cemetery. Many relatives and friends from South Dakota Sully Cedar Rapids Grinnell and nearby areas visited the bereaved. Also remembered was Peter Lubberden who died at age 72 on October 26.

September feeder cattle inflow into Town ran near normal while shipments were about 5 percent below 1947 and 4 percent under the 1937-46 September average. October typically sees higher cattle movement with around 250 000 stocker and feeder cattle, the 1946 peak was 854 000. Notably, September imports included nearly 1 800 head from Canada alongside sheep and lamb imports near prior year levels but about 20 percent below the long term average.
