Knoxville Chamber hears Ellis advocate paved primary roads
Senator Lloyd Ellis urged Knoxville Chamber of Commerce to treat primary road funds as a state asset shared by all counties, arguing northern counties have advanced while Southern Iowa faces higher costs. He promoted Primary road No. 17 as a federal aid route from St Louis to Des Moines, tying it to federal installations and rapid paving. He noted funds come from gasoline tax and fees, not general taxation, and rural counties benefit as money accumulates.
