Changes in Your Social Security for Women in 1956
Discussion of the 1966 amendments shows women may start old age and survivors payments at age 62 rather than 65. Widows and dependent mothers can begin at 62 with amounts reduced if taken early, and waiting longer between 62 and 65 reduces reduction further. Once begun, payments cannot reach full amount later.
Significance of 60 for old age survivors insurance benefits
The article discusses how age 60 affects eligibility for benefits under the amended Social Security law, noting its impact on workers now 62 or nearing 65 and on survivors of women workers who died after June 30, 1954. It promises a follow up on why age 60 matters to disabled workers formerly employed or self employed.
