Simple road plan could modernize Iowa, says Larson

Louis T. Larson of Stanton Iowa argues for a European style road system where landowners maintain sections of road with shared taxes. Bridges would be funded by a small annual tax and counties would own them after twenty years. If sections are neglected, sheriffs can compel repairs or hire workers with costs charged to owners. If short, a one mill road tax or prisoner labor could fund bad bottom roads. He urges representatives to push legislation for better roads.
