Sorghum Harvesting Challenges in Marion County
Marion County farmers face new questions as grain and forage sorghum acreage expands. Atlas and new hybrids require timing for silage at the dough stage, with milk stage in some fields. Silage value nears 90 percent of corn, and yields may exceed corn per acre. If frost or rain delays maturity, silage remains option. Heads harvesting offers speed, requiring head-cutting attachments on harvesters.
