Local notes report the birth of John Gordon to Mr. and Mrs. George Stursma of Grand Rapids Michigan formerly of Pella Iowa. Many relatives and friends visit in Pella and nearby towns with reports on health hospital stays travel and farm work.
Dr and Mrs F F Carpenter departed Sunday for an indefinite stay in Florida chiefly at Dade City. Rev Jacob Prins is touring eastern churches to promote the Greater Things movement. A B Van Houwe fing and spouse went to Omaha to view the 1938 Plymouths. Earl Vander Meide and wife from Des Moines visited Saturday night. W D Van Sit and another couple along with Dykstra and Vander Linden families drove to Des Moines Sunday to visit Orville Dykstra. Mrs John Van Dyk visited sister Clara Van Zante at a Davenport hospital clinic. Mrs Harry De Jong was taken to Des Moines Lutheran hospital for possible operation. Mrs Herman Welle of Newton has been with sister Kate Carl for several days. Mrs A M Duus of LeMars visited cousin Mrs Otto Van Speren from Friday to Tuesday, also joining H De Gooyer and Will De Gooyer at the W W Sadler home. Duus and Van Speren have not seen each other in 67 years.
Remembrance notes mark September and October birthdays at the Home for the Aged. numerous visits from relatives and friends across Iowa and neighboring states are recorded, detailing families from Oskaloosa Prairie City Leighton Knoxville and Des Moines among others.
Matthew Kempkes, a former U S Navy member who spent time in Sweden, praises Swedish razor blades as superior due to tempering that yields longer lasting safety razor edges. He notes blades require less sharpening and hold up under use, contrasting with U S products.
C. T. Bailey of Coal Ridge claims an anvil used by his father in the blacksmith trade is at least seventy years old. He owns a bolt-making contrivance from that era and notes the long life spent in the river bottom home.
A 70 year old blacksmith built a nails yard for horse shoeing. In Mr. Bailey’s possession lies an old bell used by his father, now misplaced and likely lost.
Dr D D Beyer of Okmulgee Oklahoma was elected President of the Eastern Oklahoma Ostheopathic association at a weekend Muskogee meeting. Congratulations to Dan.
Chronicle reports cotton planted from seed gifted by Mr and Mrs Guy Spa ar of Knoxville. Wyona and Arlene Anderson transplanted six house plants outdoors on May 15. three survived, the largest yielding 60 cotton bolls on a three foot tall plant. Samples show cotton before and after opening.
