New Sharon gardeners celebrate a record summer with oversized produce. A. E. Longaker shows a gourd one yard long and 18 inches in circumference, claiming it as the largest seen. Crews near New Sharon work on a 1 1/2 mile strip and plan paving map between Middle Creek and the Oskaloosa end, moving the headquarters to Lacey during construction.
Clarence Wilkes former Eddyville marshal in the 1926 27 administration pleaded guilty in federal court to sending obscene letters through the mails He was sentenced to 60 days in Wapello county jail and fined 500 It was stated the letters were written to an Eddyville girl and turned over to local authorities before forwarding to the postal inspector.
Paving on Highway No 59 moves ahead at a good rate of speed. Tuesday evening the crew laid one and a half miles of the strip between Middle and a nearby section, advancing the project steadily.

A Ford carrying Jimmy Miller Lloyd May Hen Damerval and Cleo Irwin collided with a touring car on primary No. 2 east of Oskaloosa Sunday night. The parked car without lights was unseen until impact. All three cars were damaged. Miller’s arm and May’s collarbone were fractured, others bruised.
The Rivola theater will soon feature Western Electric sound gear including Vi taphone and Movietone for enhanced picture audio. A new sound amplifier has already been installed to increase volume, though full system installation is not yet complete.

Mildred and Donald Smith children of Mr and Mrs W J Smith of Glendale Road north east of Oskaloosa are recovering from injuries at East Center school last week. Mildred fell while swinging high on a playground swing and broke both arms just above the wrists. Donald broke a left arm in a fall from a slide on the school grounds days later. Both children can attend school.
In Albia last night petty thieves stole the L. L. Smith family washing from the porch of their home on delivery. Mr and Mrs Smith were away when the laundry vanished. clues and evidence left at the scene are expected to lead to arrests soon as police investigate Monroe County News.
Ballantyne, a longtime Burlington Hawkeye editor and former printer, dies at 76. He began in 1880 with the Burlington Gazette and later worked as a messenger before joining the Hawkeye staff in 1893. Survived by wife and two sons Norman of Burlington and George H. Ballantyne of San Jose, Cal.
The Fisher farm of 154 acres located a mile north and two miles west of Keota sold last Friday for 175 dollars per acre. Purchaser was Vince Jaeger, a prosperous farmer living near Harper who has long owned Keokuk county land.

Little John Terpstra two and a half years old, son of Mr and Mrs Nicholas Terpstra, died after falling into a small steel stock tank near Lacey Iowa Thursday evening about 6 30 o clock. The lad was playing with a brother while his grandfather D Terpstra and other relatives were nearby.
