Jasper County Record Merges With Newton News Tale
The Jasper County Record once edited by Jim Rhodes in Newton has merged with the Newton Daily News and its land publication suspended. The last issue appeared September 25, with the Record tracing its roots to 1894 and consolidating with the Newton Courier 1904 the Newton Herald 1913 and the Newton Journal 1916. The Record’s subscriptions were moved to the Daily News saving a small portion sold to the Monroe Mirror. Mrs Olive Kingland of Lake Mills received a mysterious one dollar bill in an anonymous letter claiming earlier fifty cent finds and sender repayment.
