Staff Sergeant Andrew J. Bandstra of Peoria returns Friday after one year in Japan and twenty months in the army. Jury summons arrive for December term. grand jury to convene November 25. Many local births, arrivals, moves, and hospital updates across Oska loosa and surrounding towns.
Home for the Aged notes social calls across Bellevue and nearby towns including Miss Josie Meyer, John Dykstra funeral attendance, and numerous visits among Den Burger Langstraat De Jong Klein and Verwers. Tulip bulb planting stream marks community activity at the Home.
In Iowa, the Veterans Administration directs the Iowa Employment Security Commission to require active job search for veterans to receive readjustment allowances. The change follows a ruling citing nonaction as reason to deny benefits, noting a 56 percent drop in veterans drawing allowances over eight weeks from 12,982 claimants ($822,256) to 6,080 claimants ($148,697).

The sale continues through Dec 26. Lois recalls tuberculin testing at university entrance and the fight against tuberculosis.
The Supreme Court unanimously upheld the Marion County District Court conviction of Marion A. Powell for the murder of Mike Slykhuis on April 28 on the Slykhuis farm near Knox. Powell also shot Ike Slykhuis. Powell remains in Fort Madison prison. the related indictment is pending but likely will not proceed.
A Knoxville meeting with veterinarians and Iowa State College staff established a county wide nodular worm control program for Marion County sheep flocks. The committee includes Dr W C Ver Ploeg Dr Roger Scott Dr K W Strouder C W McDonald Dick McWilliams Maurice Soults Roy Swanson Dewey Jantz G Gross Rogers and members Tom Fultz and L D Belknap. The plan features January dren cheng demonstrations amid near total infestation in slaughter tests of native Marion County lambs and 919 flock owners totaling 10043 ewes.
The Iowa chapter announces a 1946 fund appeal to train at least ten experts in the Sister Kenny method to prevent deformities from polio. Nurses will be trained on scholarships, with funds split between state and national efforts to expand Kenny treatment and the Minneapolis institute. The drive runs November 18 to December 7, counties may start later, gifts sent to the Iowa State Sister Kenny Foundation address.
W A Oxenreider of Lacona Warren county harvested a bushel from a 10 by 20 foot patch of peanuts. The crop yields about 200 bushels per acre and requires similar care to potatoes, growing underground like root crops.
Indianola is considering establishing a municipal planning commission to map a decade of growth and public improvements. Alderman Harry L. Grange outlined duties to council, aiming for a six month report and a coordinated plan for parks roads and building projects. The seven commissioners will serve five year terms, with no pay, and report annually to the mayor.
The text outlines that planning recreation plans must be submitted to the planning commission before the council. The council may appropriate funds for the commission, but the commission cannot raise its own money. Gifts to the commission are accepted but placed in the commission fund and approved by the council. Gifts for libraries go to the library fund, and gifts for a band shell go to the hand fund.
