Corn Harvest Shows Damage By Corn Borer
Corn producers in parts of the county report significant damage from corn borers as harvest progresses. Fields planted between May 12 and 20 show little infestation, while later plantings suffer heavy losses. Yields reach up to 100 bushels in damaged areas. some borer-free fields exceed this, but total county production is expected to fall. Soybeans yield well with many fields over 20 bushels per acre, some 30, and moisture around 11 percent at Hawkeye Mill. The bean crop should exceed last year, with four additional carloads handled at Hawkeye so far.

Tragic Farm Accident Claims Boy in Corn Bin
