Years Standing Is Paid On Clarion Subscription
Seventeen years ago Blanche Johnstone Cok bought the Richland Clarion and began cleaning the subscription list. She billed a woman subscriber $1.25 for one year and received no response, then stopped sending the paper. Recently Mrs. Cook now with Roseburg News-Review received a money order for the amount due with interest and a note that she intended to pay but did not know the former publisher’s identity.

Smallpox Epidemic Reported in Delta Town
An outbreak of smallpox in Delta has grown with five new cases this week, joining the initial case from last week. Town marshal Jess Alin has posted quarantine signs as health officials work to contain the spread. Albia Man Stricken on Hunting Trip
John Thompson, 63, suffered a stroke while hunting two miles north of Albia last Saturday about 2:00 pm. He was brought to his home on Cavenne West and is recovering satisfactorily. Accompanied by neighbor boys Glen Yearty and Richard Love, he was found after collapsing near the Fran cy farm on Primary No. 59. Deputy Tedford alerted medical aid. condition improved but initial fear remained.

Hoover Loses Bid Over Road Plan Through Orchard
Judge Dan W. Hamilton ruled Monday that the highway commission may rework federal highway No. 63 through Hoover orchard southeast of What Cheer. The decision denied Hoover’s petition for a permanent injunction, finding no rounding-curve violation and allowing compensation to be paid for the damage to the property. Farm Home and Barn Burned in Dry Ridge Incident
Guy Warren's Dry Ridge farm home, known as the Bradley farm, burned Tuesday morning likely from a defective flue. Most first floor furniture survived, while second floor losses and clothing were ruined. Insurance partly covers the loss. The nearby Earl Allen farm barn in Cedar township also burned Monday evening around 6. No livestock was harmed. The cause remains unknown.

Youth dies after shooting during hunting trip near Eddyville
Richard Dingledine ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Dingledine died at Kaska county hospital after a hunting accident on the Des Moines river bottom near Eddyville. Lawrence Hull fired a rabbit shot that struck Dick in the liver causing fatal bleeding. Dick, a former Oskaloosa High basketball player, died about 1 16 PM. Funeral services set for Wednesday at the First Christian church.

Man Killed After Quarrel With Father
Funeral services for George Wilson aged 49 were held at Jones Funeral Parlors with Rev. Arthur A. Wing in charge. He died at 8:00 p.m. Monday from wounds received Friday morning south of Washington after a quarrel with his father who lived with them. The father pulled a revolver. the wife knocked it away as a knife was drawn in the scuffle. Mrs. Wilson was cut. a doctor attended. Sheriff Sweet took the father to jail.
