WPA Road Work Nears End in Mahaska County
WPA engineers state winter weather will halt most road projects in Mahaska County after starting several fall jobs employing 275 men on WPA payroll. About 15 miles of road have been built and graded. once ground freezes, crews shift to rock quarries for crushed rock to cover roads next spring. Only around 145 men remain at work on the roads, with many finding corn picking work.
