Trapping Season Opens November 10

Trapping season begins at noon November 10 drawing thousands of farm boys and hundreds of professional trappers. Despite fewer fur bearers, the open season is expected to yield over two million dollars in fur sales. Prices hinge on fur type with short hairs steady and long-haired fur such as fox raccoon and skunk remaining low. The muskrat season lasts thirty days ending December 10 while other protected fur bearing animals stay open to January 10. Beaver requires a special permit and muskrat trapping is banned along parts of the Mississippi River east of the DM railroad corridor from Muscatine north to the state line.
