Rose Hill hosts a picnic marking the end of term for students and parents. Miss Doris Carnahan of Killduff will teach at Rose Hill school for the next term. Miss Cordellia Van Zante was operated on for appendicitis at Mercy hospital in Oskaloosa and is recovering. Mrs. Anne Breen visits Art Van der Werff in Rose Hill. Miss Jennie De Ronde visited with Minnie Mae Vanden Berg. John and Mrs. Vanden Berg visited the Vande Kieft home near Leighton on Sunday.
Otley residents share weekend visits as Leo Padeski Dickema and Rock Island relatives stayed with the Kool and Dickema families. Norman Robus's appendicitis recovery at Mahaska hospital, and Richard Postma's home remodel plans at the Will Lille place. A plate glass window break at J. M. Van Vliet’s store was repaired next day. Des Moines visitors Donai family and local youths recover from measles and Tulip Time attendance at Pella despite cold rain.
Anna Sherman and daughter Florence visit Sully from Newton. Sully high school held commencement at First Reformed church with diplomas awarded to Dorothy Van Gilst valedictorian and Lucille Sherman second. Eighth graders Dorothy Van Arkel and Almetta De Jong topped their class. Numerous local residents and families attended, with community events including a Ladies Aid gathering, ministerial meeting, and a tulip festival in Pella.
Killduff residents and families visited Pella for tulips and attended May Fete at the high school. A pot luck picnic celebrated upcoming Spring Hill School entrants Dork Tenten, Bat Fophna, Tommy pa ean Kiyn. Local folks called on a hospitalized relative in Oskaloosa and Kellogg families shared notes from Sully and Ver Steegh gatherings.

Crowded out last week Peoria enjoys pleasant May weather as farmers advance in the fields Trevor’s roars from dawn to late night signaling busy harvests. The Griffioen of Sully led Ascension Day services with Rev P De Koekkoek of Otley preaching last Sunday morning in place of Rev H Van de Kieft who will resume next Sunday. D V Gee Engbers of Orange City visited the Nibbelini family here last week.
A vintage recipe instructs using Spry and vanilla to make a pineapple upside down cake. It combines granulated sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, and pineapple juice, with brown sugar sprinkled in the pan, pineapple slices and maraschino cherries arranged atop, baked 350 F for 50 to 60 minutes, then served with whipped cream. Yields 8 to 10 portions.

Amsterdam area notes recount a pig escape from Terlouw pen near the falls found at Marion Toom farm after two weeks. Lightning struck Carl Hacketts clothesline nearby and damaged Ralph Hackerts crystal set at Mr Neal Hackerts home. School terms end for several districts May 21 or 27. Rev N D Gordon reports improving and hopes to preach next Sunday.
The highway commission plans paving on No 14 from Newton to Monroe, according to Fred R White chief engineer. The notice outlines project scope and schedule details for the road improvement.
The 1937 paving program includes a southward extension from the end of the pavement south of Newton to Monroe. Start date is uncertain but included in 1937 plan. Right of way north of Monroe has been surveyed with stakes around the hill. The curve may be straightened and the road rerouted along the east side of the business district.
