The Chronicle explains its policy to print both sides of important issues as space allows. It does not endorse all opinions yet invites reader comments on anything published. Contributions are subject to the same editing standards as Chronicle writings.
Local merchants propose a Dutch styled Central Park with a moat water wheel windmill and farmhouse to symbolize Dutch ancestry and boost Red Rock Dam tourism. Ideas include bridges tulip fields becoming all season gardens and a tourist HQ near the main traffic stream. Citizens are invited to suggest further park and Holland district improvements for Marion county.
The Pella Royal Court continues Tulip Time preparations with Dutch costume events, a Capitol visit in Des Moines, and a string of media appearances. Elaine and attendants greet officials, share Dutch customs, and plan tours of Iowa cities by airplane, radio, and press events.
Elaine Schakel, a high school graduate active in student government and music, attends Central College at Pella while living at home and working at the coffee shop. A sophomore, she studies Bible philosophy theatre arts and German, sings in the church choir, teaches Bible school in Colorado summers, and plans to learn mandolin.
In Marion County Iowa the district court announces the appointment of an administrator for the estate of Margaret Van Zee Deceased Creditors and others with claims are notified to file and prove them with the clerk of the district court promptly as required by law
Winners in the Pella Garden Club show will receive awards on stage before the evening program. Judges include Mrs. G A Grant and Mrs. I F Moats of Indianola for artistry and Mrs. L N Hockett of Marshalltown for horticulture. Dutch dancing groups, radio visits, and a debut Dutch singing company unfold as Tulip Time enters its 30th year with crowds expected to fill the bleachers and streets.
Legal notice announces administration with claims to be filed within six months from second publication dated May 20, 1965. Gerald Van Zee, Grass & Klyn, attorney for the administrator, based in Pella Iowa, sets the filing deadline and bar rule. The notice specifies the second publication date and references docket numbers 38 and 40.
Rev Kenneth Leestma of Bethel Reformed Church Sheldon Iowa returns as song leader for Third Reformed Church annual hymn sing May 16 at 8 15 p m following evening service Senior RCYF sponsors. Special numbers planned and the public is invited for an enjoyable evening of musical fellowship.
