Primary Road Payments Cut Debt $80,000
Marion county reduced its primary road bond debt by $80,000 this week with a principal payment on bonds dating from 1935 and 1936. The outstanding principal now stands at $581,000, with interest for the year exceeding $14,000 in addition to the payment. Checks were received by County Treasurer Bousquet, funded from gasoline tax revenues allocated by the Iowa Highway Commission. If maintained, Marion county’s primary bonds may be paid off by 1950, though payments could rise as the remaining balance declines.

Weeds to Overcome for Better Bean Yield in Iowa
Weeds in row soils limit yields in Iowa fields. Planting rate and row width affect weed suppression and bean yield. For wide 22 inch rows use 2 bushels seed per acre. narrow drilled rows need about 40 percent germination quality seed. If weed pressure is high increase seed rate slightly. Plant between May 10 and 25 for best yield. drilled beans delayed to May 25 to 31 to allow weed germination and kill. Kill weeds just before planting and again after emergence using harrow or weeder at least weekly until beans reach 6 to 8 inches.
