Farmers plan more corn planting boosting 1063 crop to 3.7 billion bushels
Farmers expect a 5.7 percent rise in corn acreage on March 1 to lift the 1963 crop toward 3.7 billion bushels if yields average, per Farm Economist Francis Kutish at Iowa State University. Higher cash prices, a 10 cent rise from last year, and changes in the feed grain program spur the shift despite smaller signup totals. Total diversion payments will rise about 180 million dollars even as acres signed up decline.

Soybean Acreage Plans and Feed Grain Costs Rise
Kutish argues the 1963 feed grain program costs more and is less effective than direct rental payments for diverted acres seen in 1961 and 1982. Farmers plan a 4 percent soybean acreage increase for March 1, targeting about 300 million acres and a 725 million bushel harvest if yields match last year, with potential stock expansion if use grows.
