West Market Square of Pella Recalled in Park History
The article reminisces about West Market Square in Pella, planned by Dominic Scholte nearly ninety years ago as a market site later becoming a boys playground. It recalls youth games like Workup and Duck On the Rock, balloon ascensions by Vossie, water works developments with a deep Sitler well, and local figures such as the Kempkes family shaping the park’s trees and pool, with notes on the standpipe and early city water system.

Soybeans Cut Corn Yields In Mixed Plantings Says Culbertson
C Culbertson, animal husbandman at Town State College, reports tests show soybeans reduce corn yields by up to six bushels per acre in wet years. He advises planting a strip of beans along one hogged down field edge to supply a home grown protein supplement. The piece also notes a maxim about greatness and Kansas leading mining states.
