The Executive Secretary of the Board of U S Civil Service Examiners announces that applications for State Program Assistant positions with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, U S Department of Agriculture, may be filed until May 28, 1957. Open in Illinois Indiana Iowa Kentucky Michigan Missouri Ohio and Wisconsin with a $3670 entrance salary. tests and experience, education rating required for eligibility.
Albia wins the triangular track meet at Pella with 118 points, Pella 106, Knoxville 58. Individuals place for Pella include Jim Duffus winning the 120 yard high hurdles and 120 yard low hurdles, Larry Kuiper earning multiple second places, Bob Slykhuis winning the 880 yard run, and Ken Kuiper taking 220 yard dash and other high finishes.
Mrs. W. Vande Voort of Leighton was injured when two cars collided at 7:25 p.m. Saturday at A avenue west and north D street. The Ford driven by William H. Vander Voort crossed the intersection after vision was impaired by stopped traffic and struck a Plymouth driven by 17 year old Robert LeRoy Wilford. The Vander Voort car jumped the curb, damaged a house at 112 North D Street and left the vehicle in front of Clarence Selk’s home. Mrs. Van de Voort was taken to Mahaska hospital for x rays. authorities said her condition is good.
Valley of West Des Moines defends as top teams contend for title. Indianola and Centerville lead with strong relays and standout open-event performers. Chariton shows depth in medley but lacks overall punch. Winterset features Jim Van Werden who could sweep three events. Albia Pella and Knoxville have solid sprinters and field athletes but lack depth for top honors.
The South Central Conference tracks meet will be held at Kuyper Stadium Central College in Pella on Wednesday afternoon and evening May 15. Preliminaries start at 3 30 p m and finals at 7 p m. This marks the second year the meet is scheduled as a night event to boost attendance.
Iowa farm hog slaughter projections show April and May totals near 2.4 million head, about 13 percent below 1956's two month total, and 1 percent above the five year average. April shipments are seen around 1.22 million and May about 1.18 million, with March hogs at 1.41 million and sow share 7 percent. Cattle and calves for slaughter in March total 290,000 head, up 27 percent from the five year average.
