In Orange City a single craftsman, Mr Jake Van Hoff born in Gelderland Netherlands, runs a two room wood shoe shop attached to his home. He uses simple hand tools, carves willow basswood or cottonwood shoes, soaks blocks to prevent splitting, adds decorative niches and lines, and finishes with live scraping and sandpaper. He wears wooden shoes at home, claiming comfort and ease on his feet.
