Record of Spring Duck Flight Over Iowa
A congressional report notes one of the heaviest spring duck flights in recent years with about 150 million waterfowl migrating south this spring in undiminished numbers. Inland lakes hosted thousands of ducks in brilliant plumage while the Missouri River valley saw unusual pintail abundance. Goose flights were heavy but not as strong as past seasons, with geese dispersing when bombers passed nearby. Spring duck shooting violations were fewer, yet prosecutions occurred statewide. Three Wapello hunters were fined $900 for illegal shooting in the Conesville marsh area. A judge commented that if he has anything to say about it there will be duck shooting for overseas boys when they return.
