Fire destroys Van Hemert home and contents in Sunday blaze
A house containing fruit cans and winter preserved meat, plus three hogs, was totally destroyed by a fire believed caused by a faulty flue or a smoldering roof fire. Mr and Mrs Vanden Paard and Mrs Van Hemert rushed to evacuate but arrived too late. Fire was discovered on the north side with a small breakfast cob fire long extinguished before Sunday school. The exact discovery time and cause remain under investigation.
