The old city water tower in the west market square was dismantled and shipped by Cohen Bros. of Des Moines after purchase. They burned supports with an oxygen torch and loaded two to three loads of metal. The Park Commission finally sold it for $67 after failing to find a disposal solution. Built about thirty years ago, it stood with the first water mains and served until the wooden tank failed. The system was replaced a year ago by a new tank a few blocks south.
