Hog and cattle markets face slow price rise this year
Iowa State College economist Francis Kutish says pork supplies are ample nationwide with only New York showing slight gains. Hog prices unlikely to rise before May. a summer lift expected, then possible fall holdbacks as hogs finish the corn crop. Cattle on feed up while marketings lag, with soft corn cattle threatening price declines and a wider gap between corn-fed and utility grades. Baby chick orders hinge on egg and feed costs. egg output may rise next fall if chick purchases drop.
