Knoxville Fire Nearly Destroys Roff Home
Mrs Yeski Roff, 67, narrowly escaped fatal burns when her son Charles Roff's southeast Knoxville house caught fire around noon. Officials suspect a defective flue or a spark from the chimney as causes. Firemen faced a windy blaze, the second story burned, and the structure suffered total loss despite hoses and prompt action. Mrs Roff and Mrs Charles Roff were moved to safety. insurance covered the damaged dwelling, now vacant and set to be abandoned for a farm two miles south.

Central Finishes Good Season
Central finished a successful cage season, tying for fourth in the Iowa Conference. Buena Vista led the league, with four teams, including State Teachers and Central, posting strong marks. The Dutchmen played fifteen conference games, winning ten and losing five, led by Capt. Neifert Hoogeveen Rowland Tandy Beyers, under Coach Pence, plus top scorer Hoogeveen.

Central College Players Lead Season Scoring and Defense
The Central College basketball season saw top scorer 63 field goals and 28 free throws for 154 points, leading the conference in field goals and tying for first in free throws. Capt. Neifert added 71 points with a strong floor game, while Tandy tallied 59 points amid solid defense. Rowland totaled 97 points and Beyers and Hoogeveen shared free throw honors with 128 points combined. Reserves Scholten Kuyper Wormhoudt Hawkins and others contributed. all players return next season with new additions.

Harry Awtry Appointed to Knoxville Hospital
Harry Awtry received word on Wednesday he was appointed to a position in the occupational therapy department of the U S Veterans Hospital at Knoxville with orders to report at once. He will direct convalescent patients in lawn care gardening and poultry raising, using his state agricultural college training. He previously ran the Manhattan Oil station in Pella and will leave a vacancy there. Awtry is active in American Legion work in Pella and will be missed locally.

Professor H W Pietenpol undergoes appendicitis operation
Professor H W Pietenpol of Central College was rushed to Lutheran Hospital Des Moines on Saturday morning after an acute appendicitis attack. An operation was performed and his condition following the procedure is reported as good as can be expected.
