Bas Van Rees Dies At Home At 74 In Aged Home
Bas Van Rees died Friday morning at 7 15 at the Home For the Aged where he had lived over years. A heart attack caused death. He was 74 years 11 months and 28 days, born in Holland on March 23 1859. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 30 pm at the Third Reformed church Rev G Menning officiating. Interment in Oakwood. Pallbearers named by the deceased included Jacob Plender John Van Vark John Voge Jaar Art De Kock Jacob Kuiken and Dirk De Haan. Surviving are his wife Maggie De Hoedt married 47 years, two sons Henry of Monroe Gerrit of Pelia, a daughter Mrs Seth Mann of Oxford Iowa, several grandchildren, three brothers John Leon and Gerrit. He enjoyed good health until recently, fell ill with smallpox but recovered before a heart attack ended his life. The editor recalled his strong health last September and noted life’s uncertainty. His father died at 80 and his mother at 85. Born in Holland in 1866, when Mr Van Rees was six, the family sailed for America. a sister died at sea. His life was spent in this area with many friends who mourn his loss.

Agent Dies On 26th Anniversary At Hayesville
John McEwen aged 74 station agent for Milwaukee railroad at Hayesville died at home Monday morning the day of his 26th wedding anniversary He served 21 years with the railroad 2 1/2 years at Hayesville Funeral services were held Wednesday under Rev C E Atwood with burial in Pennington cemetery He is survived by his wife and a stepdaughter Mrs Davis Keokuk County News.

Dr J W Reynolds Dies in Detroit Hotel Death
Dr J W Reynolds 57 a longtime Iowa Democratic leader and eye ear nose and throat specialist died last week at the Statler hotel in Detroit Michigan. He fell ill on a tour studying sales tax systems with board member Louis Roddewig and the study was for new tax operations. Roddewig telegrammed the death to the Iowa state officials while Reynolds had been in good health before leaving for New York. Reynolds chaired the Iowa Democratic state central committee 1911 to 1922 and served as national committeeman in 1928 before joining the state board of review. He was born in Afton and practiced in Creston.
