Modern Design Key to West Coast Housing Styles
In Portland at the West Coast lumber center, H V Simpson of the West Coast Lumbermen's Association says the nation will build about 15 million homes in the next decade. A panel chose 1969 1960s designs featuring open plans, extensive glass, and wood finishes with Western red cedar and Douglas fir as preferred materials. Simpson notes growth in timber supply via tree farms will meet future demand, and that the contemporary home style emphasizes natural wood tones and integration with outdoor space.
