Eastern farmers aid winter birds in Jackson county
On M. M. Miller farm near Nashville, a patch of sudan grass left uncut provides winter home for ten pheasants and a covey of quail. Miller scatters grain, keeping birds healthy. Archie Tubbs north of Maquoketa feeds about twenty pheasants and forty quail, shielding them from cold winds and offering shelter. If nesting cover appears in spring, numbers may grow in future winters.
