Amon Long a southeast Lake Prairie township farmer was born in Kansas and moved around before settling on a Marion county farm southeast of Pella fifteen years ago. He keeps 10 sows with two farrowings yearly, plans a June farrowing, and expects about 140 market pigs yearly. He also runs 22 stock cows for feeder calves with a consistent 100 percent calf crop for two years. His operation includes 108 acres on his home farm and 53 acres rented in Mahaska county, using a four year crop- with pasture rotation and soil-bank land in the rented tract to be rotated into hay oats and corn. His wife Edith works in Roseland production control. They married in 1948 after prior marriages. Amon has a daughter from his first marriage, now Mrs. Jack Hanson of Claremont California. His widow wife previously had three children: Roland McCombs a Brooklyn math teacher, Mrs. Henry Roozeboom a farmer southeast of Oskaloosa, and Pic Delbert McCombs of Ft. Sam Houston Texas.
