City Council Deliberates On Finances And Cemetery Purchase

The Tuesday council meeting remained cautious with no action on election timing. Treasurer’s report showed 823,387.74 in funds and bills totaling 3,317.15. The electric light fund might cover last spring’s 40,000 project, but 6,000 in bonds remain callable after 1926. The Fowler Telephone and Oakwood Cemetery items dominated, with franchise changes, objections by Fowler, and a debate on cemetery purchase including a $700 debt and title risks. Advisory vote on Oakwood favored, but aldermen showed reluctance and contemplated purchasing shares to control the cemetery under the existing corporation.
