Dedication of Lower Grove mission chapel noted near Ballengee's Creek
The Lower Grove mission chapel on Ballengee's Creek nine miles east of town was dedicated last Sunday after Rev. Ezra Temple organized a church there in early April. The new 26 by 36 foot building features a small tower, memorial window, plastered walls, hard pine ceiling, and walnut-trimmed pews. Dr. Ketman and Rev. Wilson of the American Baptist Publication Society attended, helping raise a $400 debt. Dr. Ketman preached and Dr. Garrison offered dedicatory prayer. A community dinner followed with speeches, then rain hindered the return trip of the Pella party, leaving muddy feet and pantaloons.
