4-H Club Medals and Trips Offered in National Contest

County 4-H livestock members compete for medals in the Thomas FE Wilson National Meat Animal Contest. About 3600 4-H youths nationwide have earned emblems. state prize winners receive gold watches, trips to the National Club Congress, and college scholarships. County champions in this state will be judged for state honors before November 1, with top extension winners advancing to a Chicago trip and cash scholarships for the best trip recipients. Contest requires bonafide 4-H Club membership with livestock projects.

Plow Founders Program Broadcast From Grand Detour

From Grand Detour Illinois the National Broadcasting Company Farm and Home Hour will feature a memorial centennial for Major Leonard Andrus founder of the steel plow. Truck drivers fined for overloads in Washington County

Twenty-one crushed rock truck drivers were fined for overloads on road work in Washington County. They appeared before Justice of the Peace J. E. Bovee after being charged by State Patrolman Richard Hohl. They admitted overloads and must settle with the county treasurer for higher license fees before resuming hauling. Costs in court were about 2.50 each, plus the higher license costs. one man paid $90, another $30. Some worked for Dane Construction Co. of Iowa City and O Weaver on county roads.
