The barb against labor leaders threatens to push into primaries and possibly a third party. The piece warns that a 100 percent labor stance could backfire, alienate voters, and hinder legislators’ reach. It argues growth requires cooperation between labor and management, noting right to work shows little growth difference and urging an end to anti-labor rhetoric for Iowa’s progress.
Breen & Kman blanked Otley 10 to 0 in a skunk game on June 16. Otley managed only singles while B&K’s lone extra hit came from C. Slykhuis with a 1 RBI double in the sixth. Batteries were Otley W Neels and J Van Wyk. B&K Dennis Brand and Roger Slyk Kuis.
Trinity rolled over Rolscreen 12 to 4 on June 18 as pitchers and fielding limited extra hits. M Ver Meer and D Vander Melen drove in runs with doubles in the 3rd while Van Voorst hit a solo homer in the 6th. Trinity showed strong offense and solid defense behind George Waasenaar and Wayne Van Dyke with reliever Al Rus assisting. Rolscreen’s Bob Plate and Ivan Plate worked the battery for the opposing side.
June 16 Natl Bank outscored Steak House 12 to 8 as overdrawn Pella National Bank. Hagen had a 1 RBI triple in 2nd, Modlin a 1 RBI double in 6th and an empty base homer in the 9th. For Steak House Terpstra doubled in 1st for 1 RBI, Den Besten doubled in 2nd, Terpstra a 2 RBI homer in 5th, Ver Meer doubled in 8th. Batteries Blom and Modlin, Beyer. Line score Natl Bank 1 2 0 1 2 2 0 0 4 12. Steak House 2 0 0 2 1 2 3 0 0 8.
The Marion County Bankers routed Peoria 16 to 2 on June 18. Don Ver Meer led with two doubles, while P De Jong hit a lone homer for Peoria. Bankers pitchers Van Weelden and Hiemstra held Peoria to two runs as Marion County piled up 13 hits.
Rolscreen 13 battered Coop Electric 13 to 3 as Van Vark and Van Dyk led with doubles and triplets. Both teams posted scattered hits with Rolscreen claiming the win behind solid offense and timely base hits.
Otley wins 13 2 over Bakker and Rus with a two run homer by Pol and multiple two RBI doubles by Van Wyk Vanden Dever and Pol. Hiemstra adds a two RBI homer for Otley as the team hits plentiful extra base hits.

Brooklyn tops Pella A 6 3 on June 15 as Nervig hit a 4th inning homer, McCulla and Schiebert added 5th inning homers, Kloch doubled in 7th. Van der Leest and Van Wyk produced Pella’s only extra base hits. Batteries Pella Veldhuis Van Wyk Brooklyn Sol em McCulla Lang.
Pella National Bank defeated Richards Cleaners 8 to 7 on June 15 as Richards stalled in the top of the seventh. Joyce Van Dusseldorp doubled for Pella Nation al and Jan Boot collected three hits for Richards including a sixth inning double. Line score shows Richards 3 0 1 0 0 1 2 and Pella Nat l 0 3 4 0 1 x with Richards Batteries Joyce Hoksbergen and Jan Boot. Pella Nat l battery Phyl Hugen and Boni Schultz.
Mrs. Martha Giese of Ackley resigns from her teaching post at the end of the school year after a 26 year career in education.
Six candidates named by the nominating commission to fill two Iowa Supreme Court seats. Governor Hughes will select two judges after returning from a European trade mission. Retirement rules force threeters Thompson and Peterson off the bench July 1. The commission also names Rawlings, Van Allen, Ballard, Le Grand, Mason, and Wilmarth as nominees. The new appointees will be the first under the $20,000 salary.
A schedule of 4-H activities in Mahaska County lists events from June 17 to October 2 including Junior 4H Camp at Lake Darling, a tentative county 4-H party, July 4-H and FFA entries for the Southern Iowa Fair, and leadership conferences. It notes Mike Dolan as elected Lieutenant Governor and LeRoy Vanderwicken reappointed to the state printing board, plus Philip Riley sworn in as U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa.
Mrs Lewis C Scott of Baldwin and her sister Mrs Gladys Jones of Wheatland recently found a mushroom with a stem bearing 14 attached mushrooms.
Bill Bruxvoort becomes the Marion Mahaska Farm Service tank wagon manager in the Pella area replacing John Gosselink who has entered farming. Bill and his wife Norene reside at 507 Jefferson St. in Pella Iowa.
