Mr Vos, long resident of Pella, Iowa, learned fancy shoe making during employment and later ran a general store in Orange City before moving to Arkansas for about 20 years. He returned to Pella, owned the community’s first Dodge car, and remained an avid Bible student and sociable, progressive local figure until illness led to death.
Proper Age For Marriage Proper Age For Marriage
A column notes June mood and asks about ideal marriage age. It cites the Journal of Social Hygiene proposing 29 for the groom and 24 for the bride as ideal ages, with deviations of four years for the groom and two for the bride making little difference. It adds that marriages where either partner is 19 or younger are viewed as 10 to 100 times riskier than at the ideal ages.

Late Season Raises Farm Commodity Prices Rise
The piece notes natural and man made factors lifting farm prices as crops run late and winter wheat declines. It cites June Bureau of Agricultural Economics data on wheat, cotton, hogs and butter, with larger carryover and global supplies dampening prices despite domestic gains. A stray anecdote about a student’s home life closes the passage.
