Seven Camp Fire board members attended the weekly meeting at Mrs. Stu Kuyper’s home. Reports covered leadership recruitment, Tulip Time committee work, and a recreation workshop set for Pella. Council Five and Fair recap and Play Day with 31 Bluebirds were noted, the 1962-63 program approved, and six members completed two-year terms.
Pvt Ronald De Bruin son of Mr and Mrs Roy De Bruin of Pella Route 2 has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and has been transferred to Fort Knox Kentucky His new address is NG 26818020 Co B 3rd Bn 2nd TR US ATC Armor Fort Knox Kentucky
Mr and Mrs R G Paton from Oamaru South Island New Zealand toured Iowa farms with an international group. They manage an 800 acre farm raising sheep and grain and praised local friendliness. They attended church with the Grundmans on Sunday June 10 and were hosted by Mr and Mrs Keith Van Zee observing the Van Zee operations. Their journey covers over 6000 miles as they escape winter in the South Pacific.
Pella uses Van Dusseldorp strong six innings to post a 7 2 win at OUI field. De Haan drives in one in fifth with a homer while Vic Shetterly and C Vander Waal add fourth inning doubles.Earlier Pella's Steenhoek Brass Meinders hit RBI producing hits. Brooklyn batters tally two in the top half. RHE Brooklyn 2 4 6 Pella 7 9 1 Pell a medley relay earns state honor roll with 3 39.0 clocking.
Sunday gatherings brought the Wittmer and Schrader families together at homes near Monroe. Hosts included the Vriezelaar and Gradus Vrieze laar families with numerous relatives from Mon roe and Newton in attendance. Community members Marion Hiemstra Lee Shives and others visited, while 4-H member Judy Mohler won county honors for best groomed girl and prepared her own attire. Funeral services were held for Giert Stine north of Otley, with Rev. Orin Young officiating.
Chariton surged to a 16 to 8 victory over Pella High with five Chariton homers accounting for eleven RBIs. Pella pitchers struggled as Breen allowed six hits in two and two thirds innings. Chariton ace Atha fanned eight, gave ten hits and three walks, adding two homers for four RBIs. Heavy Pella hitters Breen and Slykhuis doubled.
