Old Central College Fire Destroys Historic Building
At midnight the Old Central, the campus's oldest building, burned in a fierce blaze seen for miles. The piano and much music were saved only partially. the rest of the contents, including seven or eight pianos and several typewriters, were lost. Insurance covered a portion of the loss, with the blaze starting on the main floor and rapidly consuming the structure. The fire disrupted the college's history, music, and academy functions, with sentimental ties to alumni and Civil War volunteers rooted in the chapel room.
