Marion Van Loon recounts Dirk van Oakley lineage from Holland to Pella with eight weeks at sea and later relocation. Dirk, Hendrika, and Christina built a stone house near Keokuk, then homesteaded in Oakley Kansas. Dirk died 1896, burial near Oakley. Marion recalls the marker and Interstate 70 contrast. Dr Netusil speech questioned about absolutes and leadership in the Pella Public School System.

One-Horse Mower Plan For Summer Campus Maintenance
Seventy years ago a campus plan proposed a one horse mower funded by ten dollars to keep grounds mowed at no college cost. President Garrison offered his horse and a janitor would do the work. Class of 1906 Pella high students listed. Travelers warned about Monroe oil grime on streets. Twenty-five Central College graduates noted.
