Commercial fertilizers offer a late boost to gardens says Ed Cott a Town State College horticulturist. If you haven t applied yet there s time to use it as a side dressing or on new plantings. For side dressings apply 1 pound per 50 feet of row on both sides of the row totaling 2 pounds per 50 feet. Place close to small plants without touching them while for large plants like corn or peas keep 5 to 6 inches away. Work into the top 2 or 3 inches with a hoe. For tomatoes cabbage or peppers form a ring 5 to 6 inches from each plant. The fertilizer can also be applied as a liquid at 8 tablespoons per.
