Memorial Day Observance At Pella Honors Civil War Veterans

Memorial Day at Pella featured garlanded graves, a campus ceremony, and a large parade. The program included prayers, songs, and an unveiling of a monument, with Mayor Gesman and Dr. Keables honored, and General Weaver delivering the keynote address marking the Grand Army of the Republic’s memory.

Baccalaureate Sermon Opens Graduating Year

A large crowd filled Second Reformed Church to hear Rev. B F Brinkman and the 15 graduates of the class of 1911. Prof. Kuyper led organ music with I Le Cocq directing a city church choir. Vander Werf opened the service assisted by Dr. Boyle Rev Bouma and Dr. Bailey. The sermon urged higher standards of life and onward effort for all present.

Sunday services at Second Reformed Church schedule

The Sunday program includes Sunday school at the regular hour and preaching at 10 45 in the morning. There will be no evening service due to the union service at First Reformed Church led by Rev B F Brinkman.

Breuklander Vows at Peila Methodist Parsonage

Last Saturday evening at the Methodist parsonage Mrs. F. Van Gorp and Albert Breuklander wed in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Monkman. The couple departed on the 8:86 train to visit relatives and will return Sunday evening as local Chronicle staff send best wishes.

P H S Baseball Loses Final Game Of Season At Penn Academy

P H S lost to Penn Academy in a hard season closer after Lanky pitched eight no hit innings before an error-filled frame. Captain Boyd exited injured. Verros and Kuyper attempted pitching as Penn Academy scored five in the ninth. Lankelma elected manager, Boyd captain. De Cook and Verros leave by graduation.

Pella Meteors Open Season With Win Over Blythe Gophers

Blythe gophers fell 7 to 4 as Pete Bloem pitched five innings and Skillet Carsat finished the last four. A large crowd greeted the teams at the diamond with both sides playing strong defense and consistent hitting. The Meteors appear ready to claim several scalps this season.

Oratorio Emmanuel Delights Large Second Reformed Church Crowd

The Oratorio Emmanuel performed last Thursday at the Second Reformed Church drew a large crowd. A chorus of fifty voices under Prof. A. P. Kuyper conducted a thoroughly trained, well-studied performance, delivering a musical treat not often enjoyed.

Union Memorial Service at Baptist Church

A large audience attended a union memorial sermon by Dr. J W Bailey at the Baptist church. Flags adorned the rostrum and choir stand. Albert Hobbs post and G A S R circle members sat in reserved seats as Rev Monkman and Rev Brinkman participated before Dr. Bailey preached on Micah 4 3 about turning swords to plowshares. My Country ’Tis of Thee was sung at the close.
