City Budget for 1963 Shows Record High Expenditures
City plans next year to spend a record $3,730,812 with only $236,200 to be raised by taxes. Major drivers include a $2.5 million Municipal Light and Power Plant upgrade funded by electricity revenues and a jump in the special assessments account from $75,000 to $280,000 for paving. The plan adds new accounts, salary increases, and capital outlays across streets, library, debt service, and road use taxes, while taxes rise modestly by about $19,795 due to higher property valuations.
