Iowa Employment At Record High for The Fiscal Year

Steel strike ends after 68 days signals shifts in May June
The 68 day steel strike wrapped up last Thursday but its impact lingered into June as average weekly hours and pay in all manufacturing industries fell slightly. The hardest hit groups were manufacturing construction and mining machinery workers with hours dropping from 44.6 in May to 40.1 in June and weekly pay slipping from 77.60 to 67.14.
City Council Proceedings April 1952 Minutes and Budget

Bills for departments including Public Safety, Water, Recreation, and Sanitation were examined and approved. A motion authorized removing all Dual Parking Meters and restoring streets. The council discussed stop and go lights at Main and Washington, and bids for grading Broad Street were invited. Several property and street improvement requests were approved or referred, including underground highway construction across Highway 163. The council approved a school district land exchange for a recreation site and adjustments to water and sewer accounts. A series of utility and construction payments were authorized under a contract with Brown Engineering. The pool season opened with dates June 12 to August 23 and ticket prices set for adults and children.
