National Farm Safety Week prompts a home safety check focusing on stairs. Eliminate clutter, add by stairs shelving, ensure gates and lights are in place, secure carpeting with screw eyes and dowels, use contrasting stair treads, and verify uniform rise and run to reduce fall risk. Regular repairs prevent costly injuries.
City Council met in regular session with Mayor Klein. Minutes from July 6 approved. Cigarette permit granted to John Nieuwsma. Curb cut allowed at Lot 3 Block 63 by Peter Vander Haar. Perpetual sewer easement approved for Van Lint interests. June Treasurer and May Clerk reports approved with balances. warrants listed. Marie Lautenbach and John Blommers appointed library trustees 1954 1960. Bills approved including post office coal and insurance. Light plant roof bids rejected. Requests to relocate dump dismissed and heating plan discussed. Sunrise sewer bids opened adjourned. Vander Veer Construction lowest bid accepted for sewer extension. Dirt fill on West Adams and Northwest Drive approved. Council adjourned.
Red clover seed is hard to thresh and requires careful harvesting. Harvey Thompson of Town State College says crop is ready when heads brown and seeds thresh easily by hand but avoid shattering. Cut and windrow, thresh from the windrow with a combine, use slow forward speeds and rethresh as needed.
