Night watchman found dead at Sears Roebuck building
Dexter Jenkins of Washington Indiana was found dead at his Davenport work site where he had traveled days earlier to seek employment. He lay on a table, believed to have eaten his lunch and rested before his death was discovered the following morning.

Marjory Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Williams of Albia, died suddenly after convulsions. She first suffered while her mother visited her grandfather in Abbott hospital, then a second attack at 4 PM worsened, leading to death at midnight.

Construction Worker Killed in Road Project Near Hedrick
G. C. Hemmer curb form setter for Larkin Construction Company was killed three miles west of Hedrick while guiding a curb on road 149 from Hedrick to Ottumwa. A ten ton tractor pulling a sub grader rolled over him after failing to notice the worker.

Officers in a lively chase near Ottumwa
Sheriff Ralph Baker and Deputy N. L. Dickson pursued Robert Blackwood and George Van Kalveren in Eddyville last week after they fled on bootleg charges. The pursuit along streets and alleys ended when the leading car struck a telephone pole. Blackwood was captured while Van Kalveren escaped but later faced Ottumwa court with a $1,000 bond he could not post.

Fatal Accident Claims Jasper County Official Failor
Elmer C. Failor city clerk of Newton and longtime Jasper county fair secretary died instantly when a motorcycle sidecar he rode in was hit by an automobile at a busy corner. Rider Robert Richardson suffered severe scalp wounds and injuries, with Failor en route from turning on park water for a Maytag picnic.
