Sheep and Herder Lore From Gilfillan Notes
Excerpts from Gilfillan's Sheep reflect the aging herder against industrial modernity. Humorous vignettes compare Jacob’s biblical flock to modern descendants, while images of wagons, weather, and a dog chasing porcupines color the pastoral meditation with witty observations about work, arithmetic, and stubborn pursuits.
The Free Life Of The Herding Way In The West
In a reflective sketch, the author contrasts scarce leisure of the multi millionaires with the herder who has time to read. He recalls misfit cooks and old biscuits, a faulty car full of faults, and thirteen tire blows on a long trip. He extols vast open spaces, honest people, and the herder’s liberty to live as he wishes.
