Memories of Pella and life across the years

A long personal reminiscence tracing rail journeys and early Pella days from 1873 to future hopes for a 1947 centennial. The writer recalls editor Betzer and Moses Clarke obituaries, how he began penning Memories, friendships with De Vos and Neal Bang ers, and past scenes at Central College, Blade office, and local Hollanders. He jokes on pensions, beer signs, and plans to attend the centennial with Cornelius De Vos in Coopersville. The piece blends nostalgia, humor, and community memory.

Fortify With Fruit For A Summer Lunch

Rely on fruit to stay cool as temperatures rise while still getting energy and vitamins. Use fortifier fruits like bananas and dates for quick energy, and citrus or canned fruits for vitamin richness. Buy seasonal fruits wisely, keep berries dry, and store bananas by the hand to ripen. Create fruit cups such as Cantloupe Pear Grapefruit with dates, or Cherry Banana with pineapple juice, and craft fortified salads with cabbage pineapple dates and a light dressing.
