Tunis Tysseling a former county treasurer and West Pleasant Street resident underwent a major surgical operation at Iowa Lutheran hospital Des Moines dentists. The 78 year old had his prostate gland removed and bladder issues corrected with Dr F M Roberts assisting. He was brought to Des Moines two weeks ago for treatment and is reported resting quietly after the procedure.

City Council met July 17 1923 in regular session with Mayor Johnson presiding. Roger Craig Construction Co. bid $6,088.00 for storm sewers and was awarded the contract. An ordinance on paved streets and a Des Moines Electric line through Pella were read. Resolutions approved cement sidewalks on East 3rd Street and street improvements bonds for $13,000. Purchase of two centrifugal pumps for $3,750 was authorized. Adjourned after authorizing culvert orders. The Rock Island line offered Iowa State Fair fare at $2.28 round trip from Pella. Local ads note bathing caps from 15c to 50c.
