The Voice of the Public urges Iowa to pass state legislation aligning with the Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act of 1936. It notes the act creates temporary federal aid and a permanent policy of federal aid to states, with cooperation optional after January 1, 1938, and stresses much work occurs in committees.

Early Monday a 36 by 40 foot barn on Earl Edwards farm five miles west of Knoxville burned to the ground. Fire is believed caused by spontaneous ignition, injuring hay and fences but livestock were saved after neighbors arrived. Insurance listed as a factor in the report.

Ephraim Smith 85 died in Oskaloosa Iowa on Saturday. He was son of John H. Smith who built early show homes in Mahaska county. Survived by wife and seven children in various towns including Polland Canton Cafinien Victorville Chariton Fremont Ukiah. Funeral services were held Monday.

Harold Veon a 14 year old from Monroe Iowa shot himself with a double barrel gun at 8 20 am on July 9 He was found by his sister Betty in the family garage and died about 39 minutes later Coroner McMurray Newton ruled death by own action and no inquest required Harold a high school junior had been in ill health for a year and is survived by his parents and sister Betty Peacock feathers are considered unlucky.
